Pumpkin spice season is my absolute favorite.
As I write this there is a thick smell of my pumpkin coffee brewing and I am all sorts of excited about it. I know the first day of Autumn is still a few weeks away but the year 2020 has been a tough one and well, it at least owes us an early pumpkin spice season, right?
For all of my Pumpkin Spice Latte Starbucks fan, I see you! Starbucks released their pumpkin spice latte on Tuesday, August 25th making this the earliest release date ever and coffee drinkers are excited for the first time this year. While I am excited, I did not jump in my car immediately and let me tell you why…
Over the years my love for pumpkin spice has continued but
my body has not quite reacted to sugar the way it used to, especially after my gallbladder
was removed. Whether you cannot have sugar, you are trying to lose weight or if
you just want to be healthier, let me tell you how you can still enjoy this
pumpkin spice season.
1. DIY Pumpkin Spice - Sugar Free Coffee
This is my absolute favorite way to enjoy my pumpkin spice season and sometimes, I think it actually tastes better than the latte at Starbucks.
Here is what I use:
· Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Coffee
The smell of it brewing will get you in the mood for Autumn. Trust me!
I always buy this coffee on amazon:
· Pumpkin Spice Sugar Free Syrup
This is a gem for sure. I would recommend only starting with a TSP of it and then finding the right amount for you. It does not take a lot of syrup to sweeten it up.
I buy this syrup on amazon:
· Heavy Whipping Cream
I only use about a TBSP of cream in my coffee. You can find this in your local grocery store as well as on amazon:
2. Lower Calorie/Sugar Pumpkin Spice Latte at Starbucks
The other option is to ask for a lower carb/calorie version of the Pumpkin Spice Latte next time you go to Starbucks.
Here is what you need to ask for in your next order of PSL:
· Nonfat milk or almond milk
· Sugar free vanilla syrup (Also, if you order the sugar free pumpkin syrup from amazon, you can add this in instead to get more of the pumpkin flavor)
· No whip cream
This will reduce the drinks calories from 380 to about 230 calories.
Either way, I hope you find what works best for you. I like to go with option number one daily. I hit up option number two, once in awhile.
Here is to an early pumpkin spice season…
